PURPOSE: To suitably execute discrimination of unwelded place in case the metal surface of weld zone is turned to black. CONSTITUTION: A device is provided with a lighting means 3, which illuminates the weld zone 2 of an object 1 to be inspected with the light beam at the inclined direction from vertical direction against cutting direction, a television camera 4 to pick up the weld zone 2 and a image processing part 5, by which a two dimensional image picked up is subjected to A/D transformation and an average density of partial region is calculated. By obtaining the average density of plural regions in the two dimensional image picked up, unwelded places are discriminated based on large or small difference.
