PURPOSE: To provide a method for producing an oxirane compound by which the activity and selectivity are high and the objective conversion can be carried out With a smaller reactor, production equipment and energy than those in a well-known method. CONSTITUTION: This catalyst is a heterogeneous one used for producing an oxirane compound by reacting an olefin type compound with an organic hydroperoxide, is substantially insoluble in a reactional mixture and contains titanium chemically bound to a silicon compound selected from the group consisting of a solid silica and an inorganic silicate. The catalyst is prepared by (1) impregnating the silicon compound with a titanium compound in an impregnating solvent, then (2) distilling away the impregnating solvent, subsequently (3) washing the resultant substance with a washing solvent, distilling away the washing solvent and then (4) baking the prepared substance. The olefin type compound is reacted with an organic hydroperoxide in the presence of the catalyst to produce the oxirane compound. |
