PRODUCTION OF RAPIDLY COOLED METALLIC STRIP AND PRODUCING APPARATUS THEREFOR

PURPOSE: To control a thickness of a strip in a short responsive time by constituting the tip part of a slit shaped nozzle with zirconia (compound) and causing DC current to flow between the tip part of the nozzle and molten metal. CONSTITUTION: The molten metal 1 in a tundish 2 is supplied onto a cooling roll 4 from the slit shaped nozzle 3 to produce the strip 8. The slit shaped zirconia-made nozzle 9 is fitted to the tip part of the slit shaped nozzle 3. An electrode 6 is used as a positive pole, and the DC is supplied to the molten metal 1. The zirconia-made nozzle 9 is used as a negative pole and the DC current of 1×10<-4> -0.2A/mm of the nozzle 9 width is caused to flow between the nozzle and the molten metal 1. The thickness of the strip 8 is measured and the DC current is controlled. When the current is large, the wettability between the molten metal 1 and the nozzle 9 is improved and the thickness of the strip 8 is increased. The thickness of the strip 8 can be controlled by adjusting the DC current.
