PURPOSE: To obtain excellent gas barrier properties by compounding an ethylene- vinyl alcohol copolymer having specified ethylene content and degree of saponification with a specified amt. of a water-insol. alkylene oxide compd. CONSTITUTION: A substantially water-insol. polyalkylene oxide resin is produced by polymerizing an alkylene oxide. (e.g. ethylene oxide) in the presence of an alkali catalyst and cross-linking the resulting polymer by heating or with an electron beam. 0.1-100 pts.wt. alkylene oxide compd. such as the polyalkylene oxide resin is mixed into 100 pts.wt. ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer having an ethylene content of 20-40mol% and a degree of saponification of 80% or higher to give a resin compsn. Then. a multilayer sheet comprising a thermplastic resin (e.g. PS) layer/an adhesive layer (e.g. formed from a maleic acid-modified ethylene-vinyl acetate copolymer)/a layer of the above-prepd. compsn./an adhesive resin layer/and a thermoplastic resin layer is produced with a multilayer extruder and molded into a multilayer structure with a thermoformer.
