PURPOSE: To obtain a magnetic recording medium capable of securing good traveling properties, wear resistance and durability in various service environments by making a magnetic layer hold a lubricant comprising a specific tryptophan deriv. CONSTITUTION: In a magnetic recording medium having at least a magnetic layer on a nonmagnetic support, a lubricant comprising at least one of tryptophan derivs. of formulae I, II and III is held in the magnetic layer. In the formulae, R1 and R4 are each perfluoropolyether; R2 , R3 , R5 , R6 , R7 and R8 are each H or a 6C or lower hydrocarbon group, provided that at least any of R2 and R3 , at least one of R5 and R6 and at least one of R7 and R8 are each a 6C or higher hydrocarbon group; and R9 is a 6C or higher hydrocarbon group. Since the lubricant is held in the magnetic layer, good traveling properties, wear resistance and durability can be obtd. in various service environments. Further, the lubricant is pref. in an aspect of environmental protection since the use of a fluorine-contg. solvent is not required. |
