Removal of cobalt from nickel and cobalt contg solns - - for the prodn of a nickel product of high purity

Ammonia is added to solns. of sulphuric-, nitric-, hydrochloric or acetic acid type, contg. Ni and Co, obtd. in the extraction of ores, in such an amt. that a Co ppte and a sol. ammonium acid salt are obtd. Pref. the amt. of ammonia added is such that the conc. of NH4+ is 0.3 mole/l soln. The Co ppt. is separated and the soln. pref. heated to 50 degrees C and a second Co ppte is separated, the remaining Ni being extracted from the soln.
