Determination and regulation of the quality of the atmosphere in an annealing furnace. Carbohydrates frequently contaminate the required inert atmosphere as lubricants from cold working processes are burnt off. A sample of the atmosphere is burnt with oxygen, or air, over a catalyst to convert gaseous carbohydrates, and other carbonaceous gases, to carbon dioxide. The carbon dioxide content in the resulting gas mix is then determined as a measure of the quality of the atmosphere in the furnace. Also claimed is the equipment required for this process. |
