PURPOSE: To enable character conversion at one part of a numeral string having a lot of characters by discriminating the possibility of character conversion by comparing the number of characters in the converted numeral string possessed from the number of characters and kind of the numeral string as a converting object with the limited number of characters. CONSTITUTION: When the Arabic numeral string of a character converting object is inputted from an input device 3 for inputting character information and a command related to document preparation and a character converting command is continuously inputted, a central arithmetic processor 1 stores the inputted Arabic numeral string in a storage device 4. Before character conversion, the central arithmetic processor 1 calculates the number of characters in a character converted Chinese numeral string from the number of these characters in this Arabic numeral string and the type of characters consisting of the Arabic numeral string. Next, the central arithmetic processor 1 compares the number of characters in the possessed converted result with the number (fixed number) of storable characters in the converted result. When the number of storable characters in the converted result is more than the number of characters in the converted result, it is judged that character conversion is enabled, and numeral conversion processing is started. |
