PURPOSE: To reduce deviation in the case of superimposing the images of respective colors caused by an error in mark detection and to reduce the color slurring of a color image by deciding timing with which a latent image forming means starts to form an electrostatic latent image based on the detected result by two photodetectors detecting reflected light from a mark. CONSTITUTION: This color image forming device has a mark detecting sensor functioning as a mark detecting means for detecting the mark 27 put on an intermediate transfer body 19, so that the electrostatic latent image is started to be formed by the latent image forming means in the mark detection timing by the mark detecting means. The mark detecting means provided with a light source irradiating the mark 27 put on the intermediate transfer body 19 with light and two photodetectors 32 and 33 detecting the reflected light from the mark 27. The timing that the latent image forming means starts to form the electrostatic latent image is decided based on the detected result by two photodetectors 32 and 33. Thus, the accurate mark detection timing is obtained and the deviation in the case of superimposing the images caused by the error in the mark detection is reduced.
