PURPOSE: To obtain an image forming material and transfer image forming method as well as photopolymerizable microcapsules by which a dot gain quan tity is made equal to the dot gain quantity of printed matter and proof images having better analogousness with the printed matter are obtained without impairing the analogousness with the printed matter in the exposure of non- image parts (plane of the paper). CONSTITUTION: This image forming material is formed by successively providing the surface of a base with at least a release layer capable of peeling an image forming layer and/or release type cushion layer and the image forming layer and allowing the transfer of the image forming layer. The differenceΔL* in lightness (ΔL*=L0 *-Li *) between the lightness L0 * (JIS-Z 8729: d-0, Sb, W10, D65, 2 deg. visual field) of the final base and the Li * (JIS-Z 8729: d-0, Sb, W10, D65, 2 deg. visual field) of the image parts of the final images on the final base 1 transferred with the image parts of the image forming material of the material described above is <=3.
