<p>1293054 Valves PROGIL 12 Aug 1970 [12 Aug 1969] 38876/70 Heading F2V [Also in Division B1] A multi-way valve particularly for use with a chromatography column has two cylindrical bodies 1, 2, each with a plurality of conduits 7, 8 22, 23 which open at their respective ends in the cylindrical surfaces and in the adjacent bases. A seal 3 is disposed between the bases and is connected to fixed body 1. An adjustable spring-loading 41 surrounding a rotary actuating shaft 4 biases the bodies together to compress the seal which is prevented from extrusion by a clamp 36. Shaft 4 which is actuated by an electric motor is keyed at 40 to rotatable body 2 and has a collar 37 abutting through bearing 38 the fixed body 1. Two pairs of conduits 7, 8 are provided in body 1 while a plurality of pairs of conduits 22, 23 are provided in body 2. In use the ends 26, 27 of the conduits 22, 23 are connected to the two ends of loop-type receptacles while the ends 11, 12 of one pair of conduits 7, 8 are connected to a second valve for admitting compound to be analysed and exhaust respectively while the ends 11, 12 of the other pair of conduits 7, 8 are connected respectively to a source of carrier fluid and a chromatography column.</p> |
