PURPOSE: To make the scale of the data compressor smaller and to reduce the cost. CONSTITUTION: A control section 102 discriminates whether or not an input character stored in an input register 101 is a head character of a partial character string and while revising addresses latched in each of coincident position pointers 109-112 according to the discrimination result, a character read from a dictionary memory 103 and the received character are compared by using a comparator circuit 106 to detect a maximum coincident string. The length of coincidence of the maximum coincident string is counted by a coincidence length counter 114 and the coincident length and the coincident position outputted from a subtractor 116 are outputted from a code output section 115 together with a coincident flag. Also, the control section 102 writes the received character in the dictionary memory 103 at any time while revising a write address of an input pointer 103. |
