摘要 PURPOSE: To provide the image arithmetic unit which can retrieve an image pattern at a high speed. CONSTITUTION: A spatial optical modulator 34 which displays an image supplied from a video device 42 is arranged on the front focal plane of a lens 36 and a hole burning memory 38 is arranged at the rear-side focus position. A lens 37 is arranged so that it is positioned on the rear-side focal plane, and a retrieval pattern 35 is arranged on its front-side focal plane. Further, a wavelength sweep laser 31, a half-mirror 32, and a mirror 33 are so arranged that transmitted light from the half-mirror 32 is made incident on the spatial optical modulator 34 and reflected light from the mirror 33 is made incident on the retrieval pattern 35. After interference fringes are recorded in the hole burning memory 38 over a wavelength sweep, a CCD image pickup element 42 is arranged at the position of the retrieval pattern 35 and the laser 43 irradiates the hole burning memory 38 with read light over a wavelength sweep. In another way, the memory is irradiated with read light having a continuous spectrum spread wider than the wavelength sweep width.
