PURPOSE: To obtain uniform display definition with high contrast and without unevenness when plural row electrodes are simultaneously selected and driven by using a specific orthogonal matrix for orthogonally transforming the display data. CONSTITUTION: The display data of N rowss×M columns written in a frame memory 2 are read out in the column direction to be outputted to a gate array 3. At this time, a signal generator 1a generates a raw signal according to a selected row voltage by using an orthogonal matrix to output it to the gate array 3. In this case, for the orthogonal matrix, the orthogonal matrix having the value of Xmax/Xmin, that is, the ratio of the absolute value Xmax of the element sum of a column vector being maximum in the absolute value of the sum total of the elements to the absolute value Xmin of the element sum of the column vector being minimum in the absolute value of the sum total of the elements, 2/3 times or below of the number of pieces of row electrodes selected simultaneously is used.
