Signals from an accelerometer are processed by an electronic unit which drives a shape memory element (3) to produce acceleration when speed falls below the set value, and deceleration when the speed begins to rise. One end of the element is fixed to the sheath (4) of the throttle cable (5), and the other end to its core. The shape memory effect may be generated directly by electric current supplied via wires (6), or alternatively by the heating of a resistance coupled thermally to the element.
