PURPOSE: To quickly perform focus detecting arithmetic operation by providing plural focus detecting areas in a photgraphing screen. CONSTITUTION: In a focus detector setting plural focus detecting areas in a photgraphing screen and arranging image sensor arrays A1-A7, B1-B7 corresponding to the respective focus detecting areas, an automatic selection mode and a manual selection mode are provide for selecting time focus detecting area, when the automatic selection mode is selected, a part of the focus detecting areas is designated for every focus detecting zone and only the image sensor array corresponding to the designated focus detecting area is driven. Focus detecting arithmetic is performed based on the output signal string of the driven image sensor array, after calculating a defocusing amount for every focus detecting zone, the defocusing amount satisfying a prescribed condition is selected from among the defocusing amounts and a photographic lens 100 is driven. |
