<p>PURPOSE: To improve the image quality by generating a prediction frame signal with respect to an input digital video signal through the adoption of two-way directional prediction frames. CONSTITUTION: A block configuration conversion circuit 153b converts a B frame into a frame with a 2nd set retrieval block. A motion compensation unit 151 estimates a 1st displacement vector and outputs a 1st forward prediction frame with respect to the B frame. A motion compensation unit 153 estimates a 2nd displacement vector and outputs a 2nd backward prediction frame with respect to the converted B frame. A common predict signal generator 156 averages the 1st and 2nd prediction frames placed in an area corresponding to an overlapped area to generate a 3rd prediction frame signal. A selector 158 selects the 1st prediction frame signal or the 3rd prediction frame signal in response to a control signal.</p> |
