CONSTITUTION: A liq. crystal 8 is held between a couple of opposed substrates 1 and 2, the substrate 1 has a uniaxial orientation characteristics, and the substrate 2 has a non-uniaxial orientation characteristics in the liq. crystal element. The absolute value of the difference between the surface potential detected on the surface (interface with liq. crystal) of the substrate 1 having the uniaxial orientation characteristics and the surface potential detected on the surface (interface with liq. crystal) of the substrate 2 having the non-uniaxial orientation characteristics is controlled to <=50mV. |
