Magnetic tape cassette with spool locking arrangement

The magnetic tape cassette includes a pair of cassette halves (11) containing two rotating spools (12,13). Each is fitted with a flange having a number of teeth (18,19) around its circumference. A spool locking arrangement acts on the flange to prevent tape movement when it is not in the recording machine. The locking arrangement comprises a sliding part (22) which moves backwards and forwards between the spools, a tensioning component (23) to push the sliding part forwards in the cassette, and a support (100,101) fitted to either side of the sliding component. A sprung metal locking contact (40,41) rotates around the support, with one end (46,48) connected to the sliding component, and the other end (47,49) connected to the flange teeth.
