The appts. comprises: (i) jets (50) in the sliver feed, without a connecting gathering or guide tube. The axis of the guide is in two axis sections (200a, 200b) at least, at a variable angle ( alpha a) to each other. Also claimed is an operation to feed a sliver section into the clamping gap between two calender discs (100a,100b).
