The valve 30 controls admission of air to a bladder 10 from a pump 8. The valve comprises strips 32 and 34 which are sealed together along their longitudinal edges to define a central passage 38. The strips 32 and 34 are preferably of the same material as the sheets 16 and 18 forming the bladder but of smaller thickness. The strips 32 and 34 are separated at the inlet end by a release coating 40 which prevents them being sealed together when the valve is sealed between the sheets 16 and 18 at 21. The inner surfaces of the strips are smooth to cause them to adhere together until pressure is applied by the pump. The outer surfaces are matt to prevent sticking to the sheets 16 and 18. The seal 21 is preferably of V shape with the apex pointing towards the pump to facilitate separation of the strips 32 and 34 when the valve is first used.
