The dowel has a cylindrical body (2) with a collar (9) and a spreading zone which includes at least one axial slit (7) and a breaking groove. The plug body has a central through boring (3) to receive a spreading element (8). The through bore has an internal thread (5) in the front zone (4). The spreading element is in the form of a shell, and is fitted in the rear zone (6) of the bore. This forms the spreading zone of the plug body. The spreading zone of the plug body extends over 50-75% of the total length of the plug body.
