This invention is a disposable diaper (10) having a generally rectangular multiple layer body member having a fluid impermeable outer layer (12), a fluid permeable inner layer (14) for contacting the wearer in use, an absorbent batt (16) positioned between the outer layer (12) and the inner layer (14), the diaper having opposite front and rear end portions (20, 22), and a crotch portion (18) of narrower width extending between the first and second end portions (20, 22). The rear end portion (22) has a securing system (30) for securing the rear end portion (22) to the front end portion (20). The front end portion (20) has a securing system (32) for securing the front end portion (20) to the rear end portion (22), so that the second system (32) is secured after the first securing system (30) and covering the first securing system (30).
