<p>A telecommunication system provides voice and visual data communications over a conventional telephone line (16, 26) between a server station (200) and a client station (100) using visual forms. The client station (100) includes a processor, display (15), telephone (12), and data circuit-terminating equipment (DCE) (14) for data communications. The server station (200) includes a processor (20), DCE (24), and either a telephone (22) or a voice card (28) for audio communications. Each DCE (14, 24) includes a modem, a start signal generator for transmitting a start signal over the telephone line (16, 26) prior to transmission of data by the modem, a start signal detector, and a switch that automatically switches the DCE (14, 24) from voice mode to data mode while data is being communicated.</p> |
