Increasing sun protection factor of cellulosic fibre material esp. cotton

The sun protection factor of cellulosic fibre material is increased by treating it with vat dye(s) (I) and reactive UV absorber(s) (II). Pref. the material is treated with 0.001-10 wt.% (I) or 0.001-5 wt.% (II). Esp. suitable amts. are (a) 2-10, esp. 2-5 wt.% (I) and 0.001-0.05 wt.% (II); (b) 0.2-2 wt.% (I) and 0.05-0.5 wt.% (II); or (c) 0.001-0.2 wt.% (I) and 0.5-5, esp. 0.5-1 wt.% (II). The given amts. are used for (a) deep, (b) medium, (c) light nuances. (I) is an indigoid dye, anthraquinone or naphthalene vat dye, perylene dye, sulphided carbazole or quinone dye. Acylaminoanthraquinones, anthrimides, anthraquino-carbazole derivs., anthraquinone-acridones, anthraquinone-thiazole derivs., thiophene derivs., anthraquinonyl-azines and derivs. of condensed ring systems are esp. suitable.
