The torque-transmitting device has a driven shaft (12) whose free end goes to a vehicle axle and which is supported in a bearing (18). The shell (20) which surrounds part of the driven shaft excluding the free end is supported in further bearings (22,24). The annular drive sprocket (14) is fastened to the shell to turn it. There is a universal joint (26) within the shell which turns with the shaft. The sprocket sits between this and the free end of the shaft, or more specifically, between the two shell bearings. The universal joint is of the constant velocity type. A chain drives the sprocket.
