The gas feed unit (1) with oriented porosity consists of a shaped refractory block (2) with gas passages (8) connecting the pressurised gas supply space with the melt in a metallurgical vessel. The gas supply space is formed by one or more gas supply channels (3) which are located at the bottom of the block (2), and terminate before reaching the circumferential surface (6) of the block.
