Emulsified microcellular concrete which can be cast or injected is prepd. by mixing, in a vertical mixer, very fine cement or aggregate, water and a foaming agent and producing the emulsion by mixing the components, while entraining ambient air into the mixt. with formation of micro-bubbles of air. Fillers and/or additives modifying the properties or consistency of the final prod. may be added during prodn. Also claimed is a mixer which comprises a cylindrical vertical tank (2) mounted on a frame (3) by means of pivots allowing it to be tilted for emptying. The tank is open at the top and has a lower part of reduced dia., in which there is a helical mixer (4), driven by a motor (5), directly or through belts and pulleys (6). Pref. the filler consists of ultra-fine sand, opt. of the refractory type, and/or glass, synthetic, vegetable or other natural fibres. The components are: (i) 0.1 pts. of sand flour (40 microns), 1 pt. of Portland cement, 0.0025 pts. of polypropylene fibres, 0.05 pts. of ground glass, 0.01 pts. of vinyl resin, 0.005 pts. of foaming agents and 0.01 pts. of wetting agents; or (ii) 1 pt. of sand flour, 1.5 pts. of grey Portland cement, 1.4 pts. of water initially, and 0.6 pts. during emulsification, and 0.02 pts. of foaming agent.
