Method of bedding machine tool

The method is for bedding a machine tool frame (2) in a recess (25,26) in a base. It involves positioning the machine tool accurately w.r.t. the base and introducing a mortar progressively into the recess in a fluid condition. The mortar used is thixotropic and used as a paste and placed in the recess from a zone (33) which is open and starting in elongate areas (34) extending from this. The mortar is immediately subjected to vibration to liquidise it and encourage its flow throughout the recess.
