Method for measuring space separating two cars driving on same lane

The method involves using a road traffic radar (R) usually placed along the lane (11). The radar emits a beam (12) to detect the presence of cars in the lane. The radar determines the times at which each car enters and exits the beam. The time data is used to calculate the speed and acceleration of each vehicle. The space separating two cars (A,B) is evaluated using the speed and time data of each car. Alternatively the radar can be placed on a carrier which moves slightly w.r.t the cars. In this case the carrier speed is also used to calculate the separation space.
