<p>A device is disclosed for generating controlled quantities of gas at predictable rates from an electrochemical cell (1) containing a decomposable metal carbonate, bicarbonate or basic carbonate. The cell provides more than one molecule of gas from the anode (7) per 4 electrons passing through the cell circuit (5, 6, 9, 10, 11, 12).
