The present invention relates to 17 beta -substituted-6-azacholesten-3-ones of Formula (I) wherein: R<1> and R<2> represent independently hydrogen or alkyl and the bond between carbons 1 and 2 is a single or a double bond, or R<1> and R<2> may be joined together to form a fused cyclopropane ring; R<3> represents hydrogen, alkyl or halogen; R<4> and R<5> represent independently hydrogen or alkyl; R<6> represents alkyl; and the pharmaceutically acceptable salts and solvates thereof, and their use as 5 alpha -testosterone reductase inhibitors.
