<p>A method for digesting sludge or other waste heavily loaded with organic material from industrial and/or urban effluent purification systems or surface or subsurface water systems, in order to produce drinking water. Said sludge contains at least one portion of dry matter essentially consisting of fermentable organic materials. The method is characterised in that it is carried out at room temperature and at atmospheric pressure, in that it includes a step of acidifying the sludge using at least one strong acid at a pH of 1.5-3.5, and a step of adding at least one nitrite salt to the sludge at a concentration of 10-500 mg N.NO2/1, and in that it comprises maintaining the contact of the mixture of said sludge, said acid and said nitrite salt for 5 minutes to 12 hours, while constantly or intermittently stirring same.</p> |
