Connection transfer system for changing to alternative base station

The system involves a mobile station (203) moving along a road (204) at a time when there is a connection with the controlling base station (201). The transfer system operates when the mobile unit shows signals being affected, e.g. by building shadows. The system measures the strengths of the signals in the connection between the mobile unit and the controlling base station. Then the strengths of the signals in a possible connection are measured. Variations in these strengths are also measured. If the strengths of signals from the target base station (202) increase, the connection is transferred.
