<p>In a device and method for histological processing of tissue samples, the tissue samples are placed in a sample chamber containing a volume of a first fluid. A volume of a second fluid is gradually introduced into the sample chamber at the same time that fluid is drained from the sample chamber. The flow of fluids into and out of the sample chamber is controlled so that the concentration of the fluid in the sample chamber gradually changes until the fluid in the chamber is comprised of almost 100 % of the second fluid. Diffusion causes the concentration of the fluid in the cells of the tissue samples to gradually change as the concentration of the surrounding fluid gradually changes.</p> |
