The electric cable (10) proposed consists of at least one electrical conductor (12) enclosed in a multi-layer insulation system comprising a semiconductor layer (15) surrounding the conductor (12), an insulating sheath (16) round the semiconductor layer (15), an outer semiconductor layer (17), a metal screen (20) round the outer semiconductor layer (17) and an outer casing (18). The metal screen (20), which acts as a neutral conductor, has an overlap (22) which extends along the cable and along which the screen (20) is sealed along its whole length, preferably by means of adhesive (23), thus forming a liquidtight and vapourproof protective sheath round the cable interior. The cable (10) proposed is easy and inexpensive to manufacture and offers a permanent seal against the ingress of moisture or liquid. In addition, the inside surface of the metal screen is protected against corrosion by an adhesive film attached to it. |
