The control procedure involves a gambling machine having a game unit with symbols, another unit for extra games, such as risk, special and bonus games, and a third unit for playoff games (24). A microprocessor controls the overall course of the game. The microprocessor presets limits within which the player himself can vary the number, value or probability of winning in the playoff games. The player uses a manual adjusting device (26) mounted on the front panel (3) of the game cabinet (2) to set conditions for the game. The playoff unit comprises a matrix of n fields (25) which can be illuminated as they come into play. The intensity and/or colour of illumination can be varied, depending on the conditions selected by the player.
