In the roof of the tank, a cylindrical pot with an upper row of relatively large holes and a lower row of smaller overflow holes is partly filled with liquid into which the bottom end of a tube communicating with atmos is dipped to form a liquid seal which is vented automatically when the internal gas pressure in the tank rises to a level such that the liquid falls below the base edge of the inner tube. This base edge is esp. sawtoothed. The valve vents inwards if the internal pressure falls below a given level at which the quantity of liquid in the shell falls due to drainage through the overflow holes. The relative height of the bottom edge of the tube and the normal liquid level in the shell is adjustable.
