PURPOSE:To obtain a liq. crystal dispersion type, field-responsive display material having excellent age stability and high reliability, by forming a film on transparent electrodes with a true solution prepd. by dissolving a particular polymer and a liq. crystal in an org. solvent. CONSTITUTION:In the production of a liq. crystal display material comprising a composition composed of a liq. crystal and a polymer and interposed between two or more transparent electrodes, a film is formed on the transparent electrodes with a true solution prepd. by dissolving the following polymer and liq. crystal in an org. solvent. The polymer used is one which is incompatible with the liq. crystal and transparent and exhibits film-forming properties, a refractive index ratio of 0.985-1.015 relative to the ordinary refractive index of the liq. crystal, and a water absorption of 5% or less at 23 deg.C. Liq. crystals are classified broadly into three groups, i.e., a cholesteric liq. crystal, a nematic liq. crystal, and a smectic liq. crystal. In the present process, cholesteric or nametic liq. crystal is preferable. |
