The device has a photoconductor (1) for converting x-rays into a charge pattern and a controllable charging device (3,9) for charging the surface of the photoconductor to a defined potential. A measurement device (8) measures the potential on the surface of the photoconductor and controls the charging device depending on the potential. The measurement device contains a measurement electrode (81) whose charge is successively determined by the potential on the photoconductor surface and the potential of a reference electrode (82).
