The invention concerns a device for adjusting the height and/or inclination of a table top. The device comprises an outer tube (14) which at one end is pivotably mounted on the table frame (6) and comprises a plurality of detent holes (20, 22, 24) arranged one above the other and a rigidly disposed guide pin (38) which projects into the interior of the outer tube (14) and is arranged opposite the detent holes. The device further comprises a rod (16) which is guided rotatably and displaceably in the outer tube, is mounted in a hinged manner (18) at one end on the table top (8) and, in the lower area, comprises a detent member (30) which is pre-spring-loaded (28) in a pivoted-out locking position, for engaging in the detent holes in the outer tube. On its side opposite the detent member (30), the rod comprises, laterally offset from the diagonal, a first guide groove (36) extending in the longitudinal direction for accommodating the guide pin (38) of the outer tube (14), a second guide groove (40) branching off said guide groove (36). The second guide groove (40) is disposed diagonally opposite the detent member (30) and parallel to the first guide groove (36). The first guide groove (36) is connected via a curved portion (40') to the lower end of the second guide groove (40).
