Three-dimensional foam components (1) for controlling gas exchange between two separate chambers is cut without waste from a foam block such that the cutting planes (20,21) when seen in cross-section are rectangular and form a trapezium-shaped cut-out (6) at one side. Zig-zag cutting planes (20) are formed between opposing, adjacent pairs of components (1,1a) and are parallel in the axial direction of each component (1). Adjacent components (1,1b) in one row are sepd. by common cutting planes (21) at the half-width point of an opposing component (1a) in the other row.
