Magneto-optic recording device with thick-film layer arrangement

The magneto-optic recording device (12) has three magneto-optic films (20,22,24) with a combined thickness of approximately 60-100 nm and a reflectivity of 18-24%. Two dielectric layers (16,18) are arranged between a substrate and the magneto-optic layers. The refractive index (n) of the dielectric layer (16) closest to the substrate is greater than that of the other layer (18). Preferred dielectric materials are silicon carbide (n=3) and silicon nitride (n=2).
