<p>In a botanical water treatment plant the novelty is that: (a) a gas-tight vessel (2) is located within a water effluent collection shaft (1), which receives effluent water in batch charges from a storage vessel (3a), also within the shaft; (b) ventilation jets (4) are incorporated within the gas-tight vessel (2) and are linked to a compressor (5) by a pipe and valve (6); (c) a valve (7)-protected sludge drain outlet is incorporated in the base of the vessel (2); (d) water is transferred from the layers above the sludge drain by pump pressure and a pipe through a valve (8), and filter box (14) into the botanical filter bed (12); (e) the gas-tight vessel (2 ) is linked to the storage vessel (3a) by a pipe and valve (9), and (f) a pipe links the gas-tight vessel (2) cap to the atmosphere. The compressor is electrically-powered, deriving power from the mains, wind or solar energy.</p> |
