Detector unit (E), which serves to control a vehicle-occupant protection system in the event of an accident and has a fracture-prone or deformation-prone sensor arrangement (M) which can detect accelerations and/or decelerations by means of a seismic mass, and has a holder (H/T) which attaches the detector unit (E) to an object (G/B). Its surface is touched by a soft flexible damping element (D1/D2).
