The controller (100) has ignition keys (2) each of which exhibits a special ID code, a lock (1) for receiving the ID code from one of the ignition keys, a memory (21) for storing registered ID codes and a microcomputer for comparing the ID code received by the lock with the ID code stored in the memory. When the received ID code corresponds to one of the stored ID codes, a predetermined control output signal is generated. In the controller, the microcomputer determines whether the ID codes of at least two different ignition keys correspond to in each case one stored ID code, and when there is agreement, it executes the storage of the next ID code such as is sent by an ignition key which is newly to be registered in the memory.
