PURPOSE: To provide a character display device which eliminates the need for preparing a special character font and allows the easy reading of displayed characters in the case a range wider than a pormally displayed document part is displayed. CONSTITUTION: A CPU 100 functions as a deciding means 110 and decides whether the display position of the character to be displayed is within a clipping display region or not. The CPU 100 reads out a character code from a document memory 200 as to the character and reads out the character pattern corresponding to the character code from a character font memory 400. At this time, the CPU 100 functions as a clipping means 120 and reads out only the part of the range where the selected character pattern is required to be displayed in the character pattern. The read out character pattern is sent to a display device 600 and the character is displayed on the screen of the display device 600 in accordance with the character pattern. |
