摘要 PURPOSE: To substantially eliminate the influence that instantaneously emitted afterglow exerts on image quality and to obtain exact radiation images by reading the level of the instantaneously emitted afterglow signal obtd. by opto-electrical reading of the instantaneously emitted afterglow in a specific state. CONSTITUTION: Reading of the radiation image information is executed in the state that the level of the instantaneously emitted afterglow signal attains <=10<-3.5> times the level of a stimulated luminous light signal at the time of reading the image information by scanning a sheet accumulated and recorded with the image information by exciting light. The time which the level of the instantaneously emitted afterglow signal attains <=10<-3.5> times the level of the stimulated luminous light signal varies with the kinds of the stimulable phosphors used for the sheet. The stimulable phosphor having the characteristic of a high rate of degradation in the intensity of the instantaneously emitted afterglow is, therefore, used or the reading is delayed until the level of the instantaneously emitted afterglow attains <=<10-3.5> times the level of the stimulated luminous light signal if the time after recording of the image information by irradiation with radiation before reading by the exciting light is short like with a radiation image information recording and reproducing device of a built-in type.
