PURPOSE: To efficiently and readily purify a xanthophyll compound useful for coloring of foods, etc., also from natural product by extracting a xanthophyll compound-containing water-soluble organic solvent solution with a nonpolar solvent and water, and concentrating a nonpolar solvent phase or extracting by adding water or a nonpolar solvent. CONSTITUTION: (B) A nonpolar solvent such as hexane, heptane or octane in an amount of 0.2-10 pts.vol. and (C) water in an amount of 0.2-10 pts.vol. are added to (A) 1 pt.vol. water-soluble organic solvent such as acetone, THF or dioxane containing a xanthophyll compound, and the component A is extracted with the components B and C, and the resultant nonpolar solvent phase (NP) is concentrated to 1.5-1000 times or the component C in an amount of 0.1-30 times by vol. based on NP is added to NP and the component A is extracted by liquid/liquid extraction, or the component B in an amount of 0.1-30 times by vol. based on NP is added to NP and xanthophyll compound is thereby deposited to purify the component A into the objective compound. |
