PURPOSE: To obtain a lubricating oil composition for internal combustion engines which has a low ash content, does not impair the performances of an exhaust- treating device, and is excellent in coking resistance and oxidative stability. CONSTITUTION: The composition comprises a lube base oil, an ash-free boron compound dispersant, and a metallized detergent and optionally contains an ester of a hydroxylated aromatic carboxylic acid with a hydroxy compound and/or a boron compound derivative thereof, the composition having a [B]/[M] ratio of 0.15 or higher wherein [B] is the content (wt.%) of boron in the composition and [M] is the content (wt.%) in the composition of the metal attributable to the detergent}. It has a sulfated ash content of 1.5wt.% or lower. |
